Below is the list of updates from the previous release (2024120600).
" New Features & Compatibility
- Moodle 5.0 & 5.1 Support: The plugin has been updated and tested for full compatibility with the upcoming Moodle 5.0 and 5.1 releases, ensuring a smooth upgrade path for your LMS
🛠️ Bug Fixes
- Hidden Course Synchronization: Resolved an issue where users were still being synchronized to Panopto folders even when the associated Moodle course was set to "Hidden." Sync logic now correctly respects the course visibility status
⚡ Performance & Stability
- SOAP API Throttling: Implemented a new configuration option for SOAP API throttling. This prevents the plugin from overwhelming the Panopto server during periods of high traffic, resulting in better stability and reduced timeouts
- Pre-Call Configuration Check: The plugin now verifies the server configuration before attempting to call the Panopto server. This reduces unnecessary network traffic and prevents errors caused by misconfiguration
- WSDL Caching & Tracing:
- Caching: Enabled WSDL caching to reduce overhead and improve the speed of API requests
- Tracing: Added support for trace logging (if configured), allowing administrators to debug connection issues more effectively

Panopto plugin for Moodle 3/4
This is the current stable release version of the Panopto plug-in for Moodle. It is recommended that customers update to this version of the block.
This version supports (a) Moodle 3.9, 3.11, 4.0 running with PHP 7.4 and 8.0 and (b) Panopto version 10.6.1 or later.
Below is the list of updates from the previous stable release (2022090700).
- Enabled read only sessions on the panopto_content page in order to improve performance.
- Fixed an issue that could cause multi-language course names to pass HTML to Panopto, including that in the folder name. The Moodle Block will now strip out the HTML before creating a folder in Panopto.
- Added the ability to automatically provision courses in Panopto when importing an existing course to a new course, where the new course has not yet been provisioned. This will allow Course Copy operations to take place even if the target course has not yet been provisioned in Panopto.
- Fixed an issue that could cause some Moodle users to see a link to provision the Moodle Course to Panopto in the block, even if they would not have permission to perform the operation. Users who do not have permission to provision a course will no longer see the link rather than getting an error if they attempt to provision the course.
- Implemented GitHub actions to automatically run Moodle tests when changes are made to the plugin.
What is it?
This is a block for Moodle 3/4, that allows courses in Moodle to link directly to Panopto folders, and to display recordings in the sidebar. It also allows for SSO between Moodle and Panopto, and automatically syncs user permissions between both systems.
Credits
The original Panopto plugin was written by Panopto for Moodle 1.9 and earlier. It has since been rewritten for Moodle 2 by Spenser Jones, and subsequently made open-source for collaboration between the open-source community and Panopto.
How can I help?
Fork the block, fix a bug or add a new feature, and send us a pull-request. Or, if you're not a developer, but you've found a bug, add it to our issue tracker.

Below is the list of updates from the previous stable release (2020072700).
- Added the ability to set custom timeouts for network communication between the Panopto block and Panopto server to better handle errors in the rare case a Panopto site is unavailable. This should resolve negative performance issues with a Moodle server when a Panopto site is down.
- Fixed an issue that could cause a PHP notice to appear on Moodle servers set to display debug information if sync on login was enabled.
- Fixed an issue where the redirect from SSO login could fail due to the case of the Panopto server in the Panopto block configuration not matching the case of the redirect URL.
- Fixed an issue where system level publishers in Moodle were not properly set as Publishers in Panopto after modifying the Panopto Block configuration unless the Panopto block was edited in a specific course.
- Fixed an issue that could cause system level publishers roles to still be assigned as publishers in Panopto, even if those roles were removed in the Panopto Block configuration.
- Added a new feature to automatically provision courses when first viewing the Panopto block in a course. This is available in the Panopto Block configuration.
- Fixed an issue where instances of the Panopto block were not respecting the forced language of a course.
- Updated the information shown regarding which users have been synced to Panopto after provisioning a course to be more understandable.
- Fixed a regression introduced in 2020072700 where Sync Users after Provisioning could fail to sync all users enrolled in a course.

Panopto plugin for Moodle 2
This is the current stable release version of the Panopto plug-in for Moodle. No major features were added to this release but it is still recommended customers update to this version of the block.
This version supports (a) Moodle 3.5, 3.7, 3.8, and 3.9 and (b) Panopto version 5.8.0 or later.
Below is the list of updates from the previous stable release (2019070100).
- The CLI script upgrade_all_folders.php has been renamed to upgrade_all_folders_cli.php to prevent confusion with the non-cli version of this script.
- The CLI script build_category_structure.php has been renamed to build_category_structure_cli.php to prevent confusion with the non-cli version of this script.
- Updated upgrade_all_folders_cli.php to support batch operations. To call the script with a batch call it with the following:
- php -f upgrade_all_folders.php <# of rows to process>
- E.g. "php -f upgrade_all_folders.php 6 15" will start at row 6 and process up to row 20
- Added a new script to lib/cli, ‘rename_all_folders_cli.php’ that will rename all folders listed in the block_panopto_foldermap table to the name of their associated course. This script supports batch operations similar to "upgrade_all_folders.php described above.
- Added a new button in the Panopto Admin config that will redirect users to a page that will rename all folders listed in the block_panopto_foldermap table to the name of their associated course.
- Improved error messaging for when the Panopto block itself fails to load in a course.
- Improved logging when Panopto tasks (including provisioning) fail.
- Improved logging for Panopto category hierarchy calls.
- Teachers should now only see folders that they have creator access to when remapping a course.
- Added a timestamp to Panopto logs when logs are being redirected to a text file.
- The Panopto Publisher role is no longer automatically associated with any Moodle roles by default.
- Added a toggle to allow Moodle to sync Panopto permissions when a user logs into Panopto using SSO with Moodle.
- Updated code format to better support OpenLMS requirements.
- Fixed an issue where extremely long error log was generated.
- Fixed an issue where users could get directed to their personal folder instead of the course folder when using a Panopto button plug-in while not logged into Panopto.
- Fixed an issue where error log of provisioning courses may have had wrong information.
- Updated the privacy provider to support phpunit privacy test. Note that the handling of privacy is unchanged by this version.
