Requirements

• Moodle 4.5 or higher


• PHP 8.1 or higher

Installation

1. Download the plugin and extract it to /local/aceengine in your Moodle installation directory.


2. Log in to your Moodle site as an administrator.


3. Navigate to Site administration > Notifications to trigger the plugin installation.


4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Alternatively, install directly from the Moodle plugin directory or via git:

cd /path/to/moodle/local

git clone https://gitlab.com/letstudygroup/moodle-local_aceengine.git aceengine

Then visit your Moodle site's admin notifications page to complete installation.

Configuration

After installation, configure the plugin under Site administration > Plugins > Local plugins > ACE Engine.

Available settings include:

• Enable/Disable - Toggle the engine on or off globally


• XP Multipliers - Adjust experience point rewards for different activity types


• Level Thresholds - Configure the XP required for each level


• Quest Settings - Set quest generation parameters and difficulty scaling


• Engagement Weights - Customize how different interactions contribute to engagement scores


• License Key - Enter your Pro license key to unlock advanced features

Course-level settings can be configured by instructors within each course under the ACE Engine course configuration page.

The Pro version of ACE Engine unlocks advanced features including:

• Advanced quest templates and custom quest builders
