MoodlIA

MoodlIA helps educators and Moodle teams turn course ideas into useful work inside Moodle. It makes it easier to create and improve course structures, learning activities, question banks, assessments, and course follow-up—while people decide what happens at every step.

Start with the work you want to improve. Use an approved AI assistant to shape a course or activity, make repeated Moodle tasks easier with a workflow, or review a course to see what needs attention. MoodlIA keeps Moodle as the place where work is reviewed, approved, and recorded.

What MoodlIA can help with

Create and improve course structures, sections, pages, activities, quizzes, question banks, rubrics, and calendar work. Review course completion, gradebook settings, progress, participation, and course quality. Support careful publishing, backups, restores, enrolments, groups, and other everyday Moodle work.

You stay in control

MoodlIA does not bypass Moodle permissions. Every request runs as the authenticated Moodle user and must meet the same role and capability checks that Moodle requires. Teachers and administrators can review consequential work before it is applied. For a safer setup, use a dedicated service account with only the permissions needed for the task.

Open, self-hosted, and flexible

MoodlIA is free and open-source software released under GPL v3 or later. It does not require a MoodlIA cloud account, a paid subscription, a proprietary AI provider, or a vendor-hosted proxy. Your organisation chooses the AI assistant, REST workflow, MCP client, or command-line tool that fits its needs. The plugin itself does not send Moodle data to a MoodlIA-operated service.

For Moodle administrators, course designers, teachers, and teams

Install the local plugin once in Moodle, then connect only the approved people and tools. MoodlIA supports Moodle 5.0 to 5.2 and is currently beta while broader production feedback is collected.
