Insight Journal

Insight Journal is a Moodle activity module for focused reflection prompts. Each activity instance holds a single prompt — a question or task the trainer defines. Learners write a personal response, save it manually or via autosave, and can return later to edit it. 

Trainer workflow: add the activity in different sections of the course, write each task/question, optionally require a minimum response length as a completion condition, then review entries in an activity report (with participant search and CSV export) or a course-wide progress report across all Insight Journal entries in a specific course. 

Learner workflow: read the task, write and save a response, revisit and edit it any time, and print a personal summary of all Insight Journal entries in the course. Learners can set their entries to private, so the teacher role cannot access the entry.

A trainer sets up "Weekly Reflection" at the end of every weekly section with the prompt:

Completion is set to require at least 150 characters, so the activity only counts as complete once a learner has written a substantive response.

Learners write their reflections at the end of every weekly task, watch it autosave as they type, and can come back later to revisit or extend what they wrote. Midway through the course, the trainer opens the activity report to search for a specific learner's entry, or exports everything to CSV for offline review. Later, the course-wide progress report shows at a glance which learners have completed every Insight Journal activity in the course and which haven't.

At the end of the course, each learner prints a personal summary — every prompt and every response they wrote, in one document — as a record of their own progress.
