Famous Quotes block
Component: block_famous_quote
The Famous Quotes block displays a rotating quote from a custom quote library
managed by site administrators.
Administrators can:
- create, edit and delete quotes from a management page
- customise the block title
- choose a Font Awesome icon
- configure background colour, text colour and border radius
The block is suitable for dashboards and other Moodle pages where you want to
highlight motivational quotes, study tips, or short announcements.
Compatibility
The plugin requires Moodle 4.5 or later.
It has been tested successfully with:
- Moodle 4.5
- Moodle 5.0.1 (Build: 20250609)
Installing via uploaded ZIP file
- Log in to your Moodle site as an admin and go to Site administration >
Plugins > Install plugins.
- Upload the ZIP file with the plugin code. You should only be prompted to add
extra details if your plugin type is not automatically detected.
- Check the plugin validation report and finish the installation.
Installing manually
The plugin can also be installed by putting the contents of this directory into
{your/moodle/dirroot}/blocks/famous_quote
Afterwards, log in to your Moodle site as an admin and go to Site administration >
Notifications to complete the installation.
Alternatively, you can run
$ php admin/cli/upgrade.php
to complete the installation from the command line.
Usage
- Install the plugin.
- Go to Site administration > Plugins > Blocks > Famous Quotes.
- Configure the block appearance and manage the quote list.
- Add the block to the desired page.
Translations
The plugin ships with English as the source language and currently includes a
Spanish translation. Future community translations can also be managed through
Moodle AMOS.
