ChemIllusion Study Tools

ChemIllusion Study Tools is an open-source Moodle local plugin for chemistry learning and teaching.

It adds Moodle-native chemistry study workflows including molecule lookup, browser-side RDKit.js structure rendering, functional-group highlighting, student flashcards, accessible molecule summaries, and chemistry diagram study cards.

The plugin is designed to work locally in Moodle without a ChemIllusion subscription. Optional PubChem lookup, ChemIllusion account linking, and ChemIllusion visual/AI escalation can be enabled by a site administrator. Admins can disable external calls globally.

Privacy posture:
- Local-first by default
- No grades, rosters, raw Moodle profiles, raw prompts, or student deck responses are sent to ChemIllusion
- Optional external services are admin-controlled
- Privacy API support is included for local user data and declared external locations
