Meet the Grade Entry field (now privacy-compliant)
A free, open-source Moodle plugin that turns the Database activity into a proper graded assignment — with rubrics, feedback, and one-click grade release.
If you've ever used Moodle's Database activity for student submissions — portfolios, project logs, media galleries, peer directories — you already know the gap: it collects great work, but it was never built to grade that work. Teachers end up copying entries into a spreadsheet or a separate assignment just to put a mark against them.
That's the problem Grade Entry field (datafield_gradeentry) solves.
What it does
It adds a new field type to the Moodle Database activity that records a grade against each entry — right where the work lives.
✅ Three grading methods — numeric (with bounds and decimals), Moodle scales, or full rubrics
✅ Inline AJAX grading — score and give feedback without leaving the browse page, with autosave
✅ Grade release control — mark privately, then release to students when you're ready (per entry or all at once)
✅ Submission workflow — draft, submit for grading, and "require resubmission"
✅ Gradebook sync — released grades flow straight into the Moodle gradebook
✅ Backup, restore & course copy — grades travel with the activity
