Description

MWA Analytics Dashboard is a free and open-source Learning Analytics block for Moodle that helps teachers understand student engagement, identify learners at risk, and take timely pedagogical action directly from the course environment.

Instead of navigating multiple reports, instructors can access a single dashboard that brings together Moodle logs, grades, activity completion, access patterns, interventions, feedback indicators and AI-supported recommendations.

The plugin is designed to help teachers answer practical questions such as:

  • Which students need immediate attention?
  • Which students have never accessed Moodle?
  • Which activities have low reach or low submission rates?
  • Which students accessed an activity but did not submit it?
  • When are students most active in the course?
  • Which pedagogical interventions generated student return?
  • How can course content and learning paths be improved using real data?

🎯 Action Center
A daily overview of the class with cards for urgent cases, low participation, activities requiring review and best communication opportunities. The Action Center highlights priorities and provides quick access to messages, lists and related dashboard areas.

🔔 Behavioural Alerts
Automatic detection of important patterns such as students who never accessed Moodle, students who viewed but did not submit, sudden access drops, early disappearance, symbolic access and reactivated students.

📋 Class List
A consolidated view of all enrolled students, including students who have not accessed Moodle yet. Each student can be expanded to show participation level, activity progress, content progress, interactions, time spent, determinants and AI-supported recommendations.

👤 Individual Profile
Detailed student profile with access history, engagement indicators, progress by activity and content, recent activity, timeline, daily access journey and activity calendar.

🔥 Access Heatmap
A day-and-hour access grid showing when students are most active. It includes filters by period, student and resource, as well as insights about the best moments to communicate with the class.

📋 Activities / Resources
Detailed analysis of forums, assignments, quizzes, SCORM packages, H5P activities and Moodle resources. The activity cards show who accessed, who submitted, who is pending, completion rate, coverage status, time per student and AI-supported pedagogical suggestions.

📊 Grades
Grade distribution, approval status, students in progress, students without grades, class average, highest grade, searchable student lists and native spreadsheet export.

💬 Chat with the Class
An AI-supported conversational assistant that uses course data as context, allowing teachers to ask questions about engagement, risk, activities, grades and possible interventions.

✉️ Messaging and Interventions
Teachers can send Moodle messages or emails, generate message drafts with AI, select pending activities or contents, record interventions and monitor whether students accessed, submitted or remained pending after contact.

📣 Teacher Feedback
An intervention impact area showing return after contact, engagement improvement, grade improvement, pending cases, effective intervention reasons and a pedagogical summary for the teacher.

🤖 AI-Supported Recommendations
Optional AI features support student recommendations, activity suggestions, heatmap guidance and class-data chat. These features help teachers interpret the data and plan more precise pedagogical actions.

Developed
This plugin was developed as part of doctoral research in science education, focused on learning analytics applied to distance learning environments.
