Board — collaborative post-it board activity for Moodle

Board gives students a shared space to contribute ideas, links, images, and videos as visual posts organised into teacher-defined columns. Posts are anonymous by default — students see each other's contributions but not who made them.

Hi Lin, apologies for the incorrect CSS in my previous comment, designed to hide the image button, it instead hid the link button.
As a temporary measure, if you have access to the global settings of your site's theme, you could try the following custom CSS, to hide just the image button.
.mod_board_note_buttons .image_button {
display: none;
}

Hi,
We have come across an issue with the embed feature and wondered if there were any plans to fix this bug in upcoming releases? After adding a URL to an embedded Board, the link seems to try to open within the Board container/iFrame on the page and the URL doesn't load. We've found found this on Moodle 4.1 and 4.4.
Thanks!
Dave
Hi,
Is support planned for Moodle 4.5 (which recently entered code freeze)? The current version doesn't seem to work in it.
Hi Lin Zhong! Many thanks for your plugin feedback, and glad that you're enjoying using it. Having a global setting for the ability to prevent uploading images - this would be a new feature, so again, we'd engage if there was funding to support it!

Hello,
This is a great plugin.
Is it possible to add an option to prevent uploading image(s) in this plugin ?
Thanks
Hi Marie! Many thanks for your great feedback. Optional approval for posts - this would be a substantial yet useful feature, so we'd engage if there was funding to support it! Regards Karen
Hello, Thank you for this amazing plug in.
I am using Moodle 4.0 and version 1.401.03 (Build 2022040112) (2022040112)
Is there / could there be an option for the teacher / manager role to approve new additions to the board when made by the students?
I have set up event monitoring rules to notify me after the fact which is keeping it somewhat controlled for us but an advance approval / notification would be amazing.
Thank you
Marie
Hi Stuart, thanks for your feedback and questions. Yes, all posts are now clickable and expand to larger popups, to better view images, videos etc, and also now have a comments section as well. Posts do real-time refreshing, set by default to 60 secs as a global setting, which can be changed to be quicker by a site administrator.
Hi Beatriz, regarding your issue with Lambda, as Lambda is a commercial theme, we don't currently test on it, however we do test on the main community themes instead.
Hi Daniel! Mobile app compatibility - this would be a substantial feature, so we'd engage if there was funding to support it!
Hi Michelle!!! (Karen here)
Thanks for your great feedback, it's always invaluable to hear from those using board and seeing how it's meeting their needs. Plus, it's so exciting to find out what people are using board for next smile
- Regarding activity completion: as it uses Moodle standard activity completion options, they will appear in the course's normal reports on student completion if so configured. It can be set to manual completion, or to conditional completion based on viewing and / or adding posts.
- Author attribution - we'll take your points into consideration, and thanks for sharing them!
- Grading - this would be a substantial feature, so we'd engage if there was funding to support it!
- Comments are already included in the latest versions, clicking on the post itself brings up the post popup and comments section. In an upcoming release, we will have better icons and UX for comments visibility.
- Option to alter the icon for rating, again we'd engage if there was funding to support it!
- Pinned post - instructions could be included as a pinned post - I'd counter-suggest that the board description would be a good option for displaying instructions?
- Wordcount setting on activity level - this is going to be a feature to be worked on, but funding would speed this up!
- Fully drag-and-drop - it would be good to have more details on this, as we're confident that it's currently fully drag-and-drop enabled. The only proviso is IF different ordering is configured, the user can drop a post, but it may relocate elsewhere WITHIN the desired column, due to the set sorting instead.
Greetings from RCSI!
I would love to use this in a course I am working in to replace Padlet but we really need:
- Author attribution - sorry I know you have some pedagogy reasons for not including this, however our students will not sign their names. And there appears to be no easy way to see who has completed this. While I get that you have your reasons, our flipped classrooms activities are graded, so it's important that we have this as an option. Also by allowing an author image a la Padlet, we can build rapport and get to know the students.
- Make it possible to be a graded activity - why not?
- Give us comments! It's a lonely world out there when you can't comment.
- Option of rating to be a thumbs up, heart or star.
- Pinned post - instructions could be included as a pinned post
- Give wordcount setting on activity level, not on global level. It's not one size fits all.
- Look into a version of this that is fully drag-and-drop with connectors - as could be used for rapid ideation.
Anyhow congratulations on making this while Padlet is still promising LTI connectors and then not delivering on the grading and completion settings. Fair play to ye! Love to see it.
Hi Doro, many thanks for your feedback on Board! We’re glad that you’ve been using Board and enjoying it!
We have no plans to allow multiple extras to a post at the moment, as keeping posts single-idea or single-item keeps them simple, focussed and easy to follow.
The textbook character limit IS a global setting in the plugin, so you should be able to increase that.
As discussed with other commentators, we prefer to keep the board posts anonymous for many educational and community reasons.
Hi Ali, yes we have a new release, which has been slightly delayed, but we're hoping to release it here in the plugins database this month, and it supports 4.2 as well. (Support for 4.3 will be in the release after that.)
Hi
I there plans for further releases of the plugin to be made available here within Moodle.org as our hosting co will only update through Moodle?
